Civil society organisation and TBC partner TRIP-NET launched a report on 24 March in Yangon documenting lessons learnt from natural resource management in contested areas.

The report examines how communities have sustainably managed watershed areas and community forests while addressing corporate threats from logging, palm oil and rubber plantations, coal mining and the mooted Special Economic Zone.

Lessons from the report “must be capitalised on and scaled up for the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples, while conserving their resources in the pursuit of locally acceptable development,” said U Tint Lwin Thaung, then executive director of the Regional Community Forestry in the report’s preface.

The report is available in English and Burmese.
