A project called the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (PSAE) project led by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) was implemented in the refugee camps from 2008 to 2010.
The aim was to ensure that the NGOs providing services to the refugee populations understood their obligations to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual abuse and exploitation, that their staff and refugee partners were trained to be able to fulfil these obligations, and that awareness of SAE-related issues and agency obligations was mainstreamed within the refugee populations.
A 20-minute video entitled “To Serve with Pride - Zero Tolerance for Sexual Abuse and Exploitation” was produced by the Executive Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Peace and Security (ECHA/ECPS) United Nations (UN) and Nongovernmental Organisation (NGO) Task Force on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. The videos can be viewed on YouTube in English, Burmese,Karen and Thai.
