The two northern-most camps held successful elections for camp committee positions and for Karenni National Refugee Committee (KnRC) committee positions in July, with significant voter turn-out in both polls.
Turnout was 93 percent in Ban Nai Soi and 75 percent in Ban Mae Surin camps during the separate elections held in both locations on 17 July.
The new three-member KnRC committee includes one female representative, and the new Ban Mai Nai Soi Camp Committee also has one female in the four-member group.
TBC’s Community Management and Preparedness programme supports democratic elections of camp leaders. Elections are held in each camp every three years.
In mid-2017, 30 percent of camp leadership positions were held by women, while ethnic minority communities in each camp had 13 percent representation in section-leadership roles.
